Differential pricing bill debated in the dail

A bill introduced by a north west TD aimed at combating differential pricing has been debated in the dail.

Sinn Fein’s Pearse Doherty introduced the Insurance (Restriction on Differential Pricing) Bill 2021 which aims to ban the practice of offering customers different prices for the same services, notably house and car insurance.

A number of Independent TD’s such as Donegal Deputy Thomas Pringle showed their support of the proposed bill.

Deputy Doherty claims companies intentionally charge customers a higher price if it’s believed they are unlikely to switch providers.

Minister of State with Responsibility for Financial Services, Credit Unions and Insurance, Sean Flemming says the issue isn’t as straight forward as it first seems.

He claims there are positives to the practice.
