Calls to change law so CCTV can be used in tackling illegal dumping

A local Labour Party representative is backing calls to change the law so CCTV can be used to tackle illegal dumping.

Security cameras have been used as a deterrent in the past, however, concerns have been raised more recently around data protection under GDPR rules.

Nessa Cosgrove says illegal dumping is having a major impact on the environment.

Labour Senator, Mark Wall, has drafted a bill to allow the use of CCTV and Environment Minister, Eamon Ryan, is to investigate to see if a balance can be found.

Speaking to OceanFM News, Nessa Cosgrove says a common sense approach is needed.
