Sligo Councillor warns of Covid Scam

A North Sligo Councillor has warned of the dangers of a new Covid-19 scam being operated by criminals.

Scammers, pretending to be from the HSE, are contacting people in the north west about fake Covid-19 vaccines.

Gardaí say fraudulent texts and calls are asking people for sensitive data, including PPS numbers and dates of birth.

They’re also promising to administer Covid-19 vaccines at home, which can lead to people revealing they live alone or sharing their home address.

The HSE says they will never ask for personal information over the phone or via text and ask anyone who thinks they may have shared their details with a scammer should contact gardaí.

Sligo Independent Councillor Marie Casserly says those behind the scam are advising people to travel to a hospital outside of the area for a Covid vaccination and they then offer to come to the home of the individuals to administer the vaccine.
