Long-running access dispute resolved at Spencer Harbour



The possibility of local people being able to use the Spencer Harbour facility in Leitrim again for docking small boats is getting ever closer after developments were made on the long running issue recently.

 

The opportunity for local residents in north Leitrim to use the area were no longer available after upgrade works were carried out on the facility which is situated on the Drumkeerin to Arigna Road.

 

Local Fianna Fail Councillor Mary Bohan has been looking to get the situation resolved over a period of time. Waterways Ireland sought planning permission   to provide a slipway that would allow access to the facility for local residents to dock boats. However objections were raised to the application.

A  Bord Pleanála have now upheld the Council’s decision to grant planning permission for a slipway to be constructed which will allow local people to anchor boats at Spenser Harbour.
