More staff and public’s cooperation essential in helping hospital cope with surge

A Sligo/Leitrim TD says more staff and the cooperation of the public are now essential to ensure Sligo University Hospital does not end up in a situation similar to Letterkenny hospital last weekend.

Deputy Martin Kenny says the north west is facing a serious situation because of the numbers of people testing Covid positive or are close contacts of confirmed cases.

Among them are hospital staff who are off work because they are sick or have to isolate

He outlined what needs to be done.

Minister of State at the Department of Health and Sligo/Leitrim TD Frank Feighan says the current situation is concerning.

However, he says hospitals, despite being under pressure, are coping.

And he emphasised the solution lies in people adhering to precautions.
