A Status Yellow Low Temperature/Ice warning has been issued for all of Connacht, Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Longford and Clare.

The alert will come in to effect at 6 o’clock tonight and is set to last until 10am tomorrow.

Met Eireann is forecasting temperatures will drop to between -2 and -5 degrees overnight.

There will be widespread severe frost and icy patches on untreated surfaces.

Alan O’Reilly from Carlow Weather says the coldest temperatures temperatures tonight will be in the north and west:

With this cold weather spell continuing, gardai are appealing to motorists to take extra care on the roads and give more time for the journey ahead.

The gardai also point out that with Level 5 restrictions and a 5km travel limit in place, people should not be on the roads unless their journey is absolute necessary.
