Jordan Gibson signs for Sligo Rovers

Sligo Rovers have signed attacking player Jordan Gibson for the 2021 season.

The 22-year-old, formerly of Bradford City and Stevenage FC, spent the second part of last season with St Patrick’s Athletic and impressed in Inchicore, featuring in every league game.

Rovers manager Liam Buckley has moved to bring Gibson to Sligo to become the 14th signing for 2021.

Gibson spoke to Rory Houston about his latest move:

As a youth player, Gibson played with West Brom and Stoke City before signing for Glasgow Rangers as a 17-year-old. He subsequently played for Bradford and Stevenage before coming to Ireland.

Gibson may be viewed as a potential replacement for Ronan Coughlan, who left Rovers recently to join, coincidently, St Pat’s.

Elsewhere, the league’s Player of the Year for 2020, Jack Byrne, completed his move on Monday from Shamrock Rovers to APOEL Nicosia. The Cypriot first division strugglers are managed by former Ireland boss Mick McCarthy.
