The National Public Health Emergency Team says at least 9,000 new cases of Covid-19 will be reported over the coming days.
It says there’s a delay in formal reporting due to a very large volume of positive tests recently.
1,754 new cases of the virus were reported on Friday evening, along with 11 further deaths.
Donegal reported 44 new cases in the last 24 hours. There were 10 new cases in Sligo and Leitrim.
The Chief Medical Officer is warning the health system won’t be able to cope with this level of impact nationally.
Dr Tony Holohan says between 50 and 70 people are now being admitted to hospital every day.
