Donegal councillor says Green Party ‘flying a kite’ on water charges

A Donegal Independent councillor is accusing the government of ‘flying a kite’ after a Green Party minister signalled that the reintroduction of water charges could again be considered.

Malcolm Noonan, a junior minister in the Department of Housing, which is responsible for Irish Water, says the possibility of introducing water charges should be explored.

This could be proposed, he says, alongside a future referendum to enshrine Irish Water in public ownership.

But Donegal Councillor Michael Cholm Mac Giolla Easbuig claims the Green Party is being put forward with this suggestion by the Fianna Fail/Fine Gael-led government.
