Sligo beaten in Connacht minor final



There was disappointment for Sligo minor gaelic footballers on St Stephen’s Day at the GAA Centre of Excellence in Bekan, as they were beaten by Roscommon in the Connacht minor final on a final scoreline of 1-5 to 1-2.

Played in atrocious weather conditions, Roscommon established a 0-4 to 0-0 half-time lead, having had the strong wind advantage in that opening half.

The lead looked retrievable but it took Sligo 56 minutes to register their opening score in this final.

By that stage, Roscommon had scored a second-half goal.

To their credit, the Yeats Country rallied in the closing stages, scoring 12 with Dylan Walsh’s long range free kick ending up in the Roscommon net.

But Roscommon defended stoutly to run out three point winners.
