Strong Galway finish ends Leitrim’s minor hopes

Leitrim minor gaelic footballers bowed out of the Connacht minor football championship on Saturday, following a battling 2-17 to 0-12 defeat to Galway at the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence.

The final scoreline was a little harsh on Benny Guckian’s side as Leitrim were more than a match for their opponents for much of the hour.

They trailed by two points, 1-6 to 0-7, at the interval and when Galway’s Adam Tierney was red-carded early in the second half, it looked like Leitrim were well placed to cause a potential upset.

But Galway, to their credit, finished the stronger and pulled clear in the end to win by 11 points.

The victory sets up a Connacht semi-final meeting with Roscommon at the same venue next Friday night.
