GAA Club to honour memory of Garda Colm Horkan

Charlestown GAA club in Mayo has announced plans to develop a new facility to commemorate the life of a Detective Garda who died earlier this year.

Colm Horkan was shot and kiled in the line of duty on June 17th in Castlerea.

The 50-year-old was a lifelong member of Charlestown Sarsfields GAA Club.

Plans to develop a new all-weather pitch named in his memory have now been unveiled.

The Colm Horkan Memorial Pitch will include a state-of-the-art floodlit pitch, with surrounding walkways for members and the wider community to use.

The project will take three years to complete. The club hopes to fund it through a combination of sports capital grants and local fundraising.
