Restriction on inter-county travel hitting hotels in north west

A Donegal hotelier is warning that the decision to delay inter-county travel until December 18th will result in more hotels across the north west staying closed, at least temporarily.

From Friday, hotels, guesthouses, and B&B’s can open again, but they will have to wait another fortnight before welcoming guests from other counties.

The government has decided that inter-county travel will only be allowed between December 18th to January 6th.

A number of hotels in Donegal have already decided not to reopen, despite the lifting of Level 5 restrictions.

Paul Diver is chairman of the Donegal branch of the Irish Hotels Federation and owner of the Sand House Hotel in Rossnowlagh.

He says the ban on inter-county travel will result in many hotels deciding against opening their doors until 2021
