Doherty says retirement age must remain at 65

The pension age won’t be raised to 67 in January.

The government is to repeal legislation for two automatic increases in a social welfare bill to be tabled next week.

The decision followed calls for the restoration of the pension age to 65.

They came last night during a Dail discussion during which Donegal TD Pearse Doherty called for the removal of the increase in the pension age.

He called for the abolition of a mandatory retirement age, and that people should have the choice of retiring at 65 or continuing to work if they wish.
