AIB requested to outline plans for north west



A Sligo/Leitrim TD has called on CEO of AIB to outline their intentions for branches in the North West in light of reports that they intend to cut 1500 jobs, close some outlets and merge others as part of cost saving measures.

The State-backed bank will re-start its voluntary redundancy programme early next year, with the process expected to be completed by 2023.

AIB is looking to focus more on it’s on line banking and plans to reduce running costs to €1.35bn on an annual basis by 2023.

Sligo/Leitrim TD Marc MacSharry says that banks are placing too much of an emphasis on online banking with not enough local resources on the ground in many areas to meet the needs of communities in counties such as Donegal, Sligo and Leitrim.

General Secretary of the Financial Services Union John O’Connell says the announcement on planned redundancies is ‘ill-timed’:
