Sligo Rovers assured of Europa League football

Sligo Rovers can look forward to the being in the draw for the qualifying rounds of next season’s Europa League, despite Sunday’s FAI Cup semi-final loss to Shamrock Rovers.

Rovers were beaten 2-0 by Shams at Tallaght Stadium – but Dundalk’s record-breaking 11-0 win in Sunday’s second semi-final means Rovers are guaranteed a European place by virtue of their fourth place finish in the league.

With Dundalk set to play Shamrock Rovers in the FAI Cup final next Sunday, one of these sides will claim the European spot on offer for the cup winners, which means that Sligo Roves will take one of the three European spots available in the Premier Division.

Sunday’s FAI Cup semi-final results
Shamrock Rovers 2 Sligo Rovers 0
Athlone Town 0 Dundalk 11.
