Sligo Rovers beaten 2-0 in FAI Cup semi-final

There was disappointment for Sligo Rovers in Sunday’s FAI Cup semi-final as they lost 2-0 to Shamrock Rovers at Tallaght Stadium.

Two goals from Aaron McEniff in the opening half did the damage – although the visitors enjoyed good spells of possession and pressure in the opening 45 minutes.

McEneff gave Shamrock Rovers the lead as early as the third minute.

To their credit, Liam Buckley’s Rovers came right back into the game and had chances to equalise.

However, on the stroke of half-time, McEneff made it 2-0.

Sligo Rovers battled gamely enough in the second-half but the failed to create any clear-cut chances.

Rovers boss Liam Buckley spoke to Cathal Mullaney after the game:

Shamrock Rovers are now one win away from completing a league and cup double for the first time since 1987.
