Hopes that Jack B. Yeats items will be on display in The Model in Sligo

There are hopes that a treasure trove of newly-discovered items by the artist Jack B Yeats will be on public display in The Model Arts Centre in Sligo as soon as it opens again, hopefully early next year.

The items were given to The Model two years ago by a mystery donor.

Among them were nine model boats made by Jack B Yeats, as well as a wooden travelling case belonging to the artist with 19 of his original watercolour drawings pasted onto the inside of the lid.

Hidden behind the 19 drawings were several prints, including a John Butler Yeats drawing of his four-year old son Jack from 1875.

One of the model toy boats even had its own surprise, as director of The Model Emer McGarry has been telling Ocean FM News.

She also spoke about the significance of the items and what they tell us.
