A Sligo/Leitrim TD is calling for the introduction of a bursary, or scholarship fund, to help student nurses cover their costs while on clinical placements.
The issue was raised in the Dail this afternoon.
Deputy Marc MacSharry says student nurses in the north west have a variety of costs, including accomodation.
He outlined the difficulties faced by student nurses at the present time.
