Donegal continues to have highest Covid numbers in NW

Donegal continues to have the highest number of Covid-19 cases in the north west.

As of midnight on Saturday, the 31st October, there were 30 new cases in the county, 9 new cases in Sligo and fewer than 5 in Leitrim and Cavan.

As of Friday, Oct. 30th, there have been 2,130 cases in total in Donegal, 2,050 in Cavan, 621 in Sligo and 228 in Leitrim.

On the island of Ireland, more than a hundred thousand people have tested positive for covid-19 since the start of the pandemic.

The threshold was passed yesterday afternoon when officials in the North reported 685 more cases up to midnight on Saturday.

Confirmation of 552 more in the Republic followed, bringing the all-island total to 100,672.

The number of Covid patients receiving critical care has reached levels not seen since late May.

There are 47 confirmed cases in intensive care units across the country, with six more admitted over the past day.

In total, there are 330 Covid patients in hospitals around the country.

However, the national 14-day incidence rate has continued to fall for the sixth day in a row – and now stands at 253 per 100 thousand.

Meanwhile, the HSE’s confirmed it’s drawing up plans for vaccine clinics, with several leading candidates set to finish up their phase three trials by the end of this year.

But public health expert Professor Anthony Staines says it will take some time to have one ready for the public.
