Sligo no match for Laois

Sligo made a very disappointing start to their TG4 All-Ireland intermediate football championship campaign on Sunday when they were well beaten by Laois in Kiltoom on a final scoreline of 5-8 to 1-4.

Laois, playing with a strong wind in the opening half, led by nine points at the interval (3-5 to 1-2) – but Sligo were unable to make any inroads on that scoreline in the second half as they managed just two further scores.

Laois added two more goals to run out 16-point winners.

Sligo are in a four-team group along with Clare and Kildare, who they play next weekend.

The Group 4 winners will qualify directly for the All-Ireland semi-finals but, even at this early stage, Michael Bohan’s side look unlikely to qualify for the knockout stages.

Sunday’s Group 4 results:
Laois 5-8 Sligo 1-4
Kildare 2-11 Clare 1-12.
