Leitrim bow out to Mayo

Leitrim’s presence in the 2020 football championship has been a brief one – following Sunday’s 2-15 to 0-10 loss to Mayo in their Connacht senior football championship encounter in Carrick-on-Shannon.

With no qualifiers this year because of the pandemic and shortened season, Leitrim league and championship campaigns have come to disappointing ends on successive weekends.

A week ago, they lost to Tipperary at the same venue, which relegated the team from Division 3.

Here, they battled gamely against Mayo for much of the 70 minutes, but James Horan’s side were rarely in trouble and had 11 points to spare by the finish.

Cillian O’Connor was the game’s top scorer has he supplied 1-9 of Mayo’s tally.

Mayo will now face Roscommon in the Connacht semi-final next Sunday (Nov 8th).
