‘Own GP, fulltime’ is prescription Swanlinbar now looking for as Dr Deering hangs up stethoscope

Today marks the end of an era in Swanlinbar in County Cavan with the retirement of longtime GP Dr Kevin Deering.

It’s also an occasion on which people in the area are highlighting the importance of having a local GP service continue to be based in their area.

A locum, or temporary, GP will be in place from next week and the HSE has advertised the position.

However, some areas in the north west have had difficulties in the past in attracting a GP to work and live locally.

Cavan County Councillor John Paul Feeley says it’s essential that continuity of service is maintained so that there will be a viable practice for a GP to take up.

Speaking to Ocean FM News today, Cllr Feeley paid tribute to Dr Deering, as well as his making his views known on what he wants to see happen in the future.
