Taylor seeks meeting with McConalogue on marts

A Sligo councillor is seeking an immediate meeting with the Minister for Agriculture and Donegal TD Charlie McConalogue over the difficulties that have arisen surrounding attendance and the selling of livestock at marts.

Farm leaders says if farmers are to get the best price for their animals, buyers must be allowed into the sales ring area to see animals.

It follows Covid-19 restrictions and problems with online sales because of poor broadband and the collapse of a livestock sales app used by the marts.

Sligo Fianna Fail Councillor Paul Taylor says such is the pressure on farmers at this time of the year that this is now also a mental health issue.
