Cabinet facing a difficult challenge with new restrictions



The cabinet sub-committee on Covid 19 are currently meeting to discuss new restrictions.

 

A blend of Level 4 and Level 5 restrictions is likely to be announced later.

 

This will include the closure of non-essential shops, while gyms are also expected to close and restaurants and pubs will revert to takeaway only.

 

Minister of state at the Department of Health, Sligo/ Leitrim TD Frank Feighan says the recommendation from the National Public health Emergency Team did not come as a huge surprise to the Government:

 

 

The Sligo based TD says the challenges to balance public health and the needs of the economy is now more difficult that ever when you take into consideration the fact that Christmas is just around the corner.  He says the general public will be looking for an exit strategy for exiting the new restrictions:

 

 

 

 

Many retailers in Donegal expressed concerns over the week that while they were forced to shut many of their customers could have crossed the border where retailers are still allowed to trade.  In order for the restrictions to be successful in lowering the number of Covid-19 cases, Deputy Feighan says co-operation is needed between North and South:
