Leitrim Council urged to act now to avert housing crisis

Concerns over the lack of local authority housing in locations in North Leitrim such as Kinlough and Tullaghan will be aired at the October monthly meeting of the Manorhamilton Municipal District of Leitrim Council on Monday next.

As a result of job losses and the financial effects of Covid – 19, more and more people are left with no option but to place their names on the housing list.

It’s been claimed that demand is currently outstripping the supply of Local Authority houses in many areas such including Kinlough and Tullaghan.

Local Fianna Fáil Councillor Justin Warnock is urging the Council to purchase more houses and acquire lands in these areas for a building programme to avert a serious housing crisis developing in the coming years.
