Renewed calls for Sligo Helicopter Pad to be brought back into use

There are renewed calls for the helicopter pad at the rear of Sligo University Hospital to be brought back into use.

The helipad, from which helicopters transferring patients to and from other hospitals took off and landed, has not been used since 2017 because of the need for improvement works.

Since then, patients have had to be brought to Sligo Airport at Strandhill, a distance of 12 kilometres.

Sligo Fianna Fail Councillor Rosaleen O Grady says it seems there has been no movement on the necessary upgrading of the helipad.
