Sligo’s Adrian Marren hangs up intercounty boots

Sligo footballer Adrian Marren has announced his retirement from intercounty football.

The Curry native made the announced on Twitter on Wednesday night.

His decision comes just 10 days after he helped his club regain their senior club championship status as they beat St Molaise Gaels to lift the Sligo intermediate football title.

Adrian explained to Ocean FM Sport’s Austin O’Callaghan the reasons behind his decision:

During a sixteen-year senior intercounty carrer, Marren won a Connacht senior football title in 2007, as well as Division 3 and 4 league titles with Sligo.

There may be some surprise that Marren, who turned 36 in August, has stepped away now with the resumption of this season’s national league Division 4 season just a couple of weeks away.

Sligo are still contention for promotion from Division 4 with two games to play later this month against Carlow (A) and Limerick (H).
