Underage progress in Easkey key in SHC success

It’s been a long time since Easkey last won the Sligo Senior Hurling Championship – a back to back in 1962/63.

But in 2013 a group of young hurlers from west Sligo won the All Ireland Féile Division 4 title, and certainly raised a few eyebrows.

They went on to retain that crown, and add Connaught titles at U16 level.

And now, they are responsible for Easkey’s third hurling title win, a one point victory in last Sunday’s thriller against Naomh Eoin.

Easkey GAA’s Michael Gordon (Snr) has been with the team at various age groups all the way up and has watched and helped the players grow and progress.

Speaking to Ocean FM, Gordon highlighted the importance of the team’s unbreakable bond, the benefits of good coaching and just how much the victory meant to the players.
