Meeting this morning between Garda, councillors to discuss Sligo station

A meeting is to take place this morning between representatives of An Garda Siochana and Sligo councillors in relation to Sligo Garda Station.

There had been hopes a new garda headquarters would have been built in Sligo, particularly after a site was obtained at Caltragh on the outskirts of Sligo town.

However, this was followed by a decision not to go ahead with the new building but to instead carry out improvements to the current building.

Cathaoirleach of the Sligo/Drumcliffe Municipal District, Fine Gael Councillor Thomas Walsh, says that at this morning’s meeting he will also be raising the need to have a garda armed support unit permanently stationed in Sligo. The unit currently operates out of Ballyshannon.

He has been telling Ocean FM News who will be meeting this morning and what councillors will be asking.
