Kilcar to face champions Naomh Conaill in Donegal final

Kilcar’s opponents in the Donegal senior football championship final in two weeks time will be the holders Naomh Conaill, who qualified for their fourth consecutive county decider with a somewhat controversial 1-10 to 0-12 win against St Eunan’s in Ballybofey on Sunday.

Ciaran Thompson kicked what proved to be the winning score, but Leo McCloone’s goal in the second-period of extra-time was a disputed one.

The sides finished level at 0-8 each at the end of normal time.

Eunan’s looked to be edging clear as they lead by 0-11 to 0-9 in the second period of extra-time, but a hit-and-hope ball from the champions into the goalmouth somehow found its way to the Letterkenny net. McLoone appeared to foul Eunan’s keeper Shaun Patton, but the goal was allowed to stand.

Then came Thompson’s excellent score to clinch victory for the champions.

The final will take place on Sunday, September 27th.
