Calls for fair penalty point system for fisheries



Calls are being made on the Minister for Agriculture and the Marine, Donegal TD Charlie McConalogue to ensure a fair penalty points scheme is introduced for fishermen.

The calls on Minister McConalogue are being made by the Sinn Féin spokesperson on Fisheries and the Marine, fellow Donegal TD Pádraig Mac Lochlainn TD

Deputy MacLochlainn says that all around our coast those involved in the industry were shocked and outraged when the Taoiseach had signed off on the statutory instrument introducing regulations containing a penalty point system.

 

 

While the fourth meeting of the Beef Taskforce is to take place later this month.

Agriculture Minister Charlie McConalogue has confirmed the meeting and acknowledged the crucial role the beef sector plays in the rural economy.

Stakeholders will discuss the draft application for Irish grass-fed beef to attain PGI status when they meet in late September.

They will also focus on the market transparency studies being conducted by Grant Thornton.
