Gilroy backs calls for bans on inflatable beach toys

A Sligo Councillor has backed the calls form Water Safety Ireland to have all Inflatable beach toys banned on open water.

The move comes after the death of a 5 year old boy who fell from an inflatable dinghy in Mayo earlier this summer and two girls had to be rescued in Galway over the last number of weeks after being washed out to sea while using inflatable crafts.

Dozens of people were rescued from inflatable devices on beaches and lakes around the country.

A number of councils are considering by-laws to ban the so called ‘floating killers’.

Sligo Drumclifff Councillor Donal Gilroy had called for a ban back in June and supports the calls from Water Safety Ireland.
