Donegal treasure trove: Grand Jury records now digitised online

A new treasure trove of history has gone online in County Donegal.

It’s the Donegal Grand Jury Archive that is now available to view free. It dates from 1753 to 1898.

Grand juries, which are believed to have been in existence since Norman times, carried out a variety of roles and were, to a large extent, the predecessors of modern county councils.

The digitisation of the grand jury archives was carried out by Donegal County Archives, which is the archives service of Donegal County Council.

Niamh Brennan is the archivist with the Archives Service.
