Listeners vent their fury over attendance at Oireachtas golf dinner in Clifden

The people are furious.

That’s the clear message today from listeners to the North West Today Show as the controversy over attendance at the Oireachtas Golf Society dinner in Clifden continues to rage.

Among the most emotional responses were those from people unable to attend funerals of loved ones and, in some cases, unable to be with them in their final hours. They contrasted this heart-wrenching scenario with the attendance of more than 80 people, including EU Commissioner Phil Hogan, various politicians, former politicians and a Supreme Court judge, at the Clifden hotel event.

Meanwhile,  Commissioner Hogan appears, so far, to have no intention of resigning, despite calls for him to consider his position.

Among the sectors striving most valiantly to adhere to stringent regulations are restaurants. Joining North West Today to give his reaction to what happened in Clifden was Anthony Gray, former president of the Restaurants Association of Ireland and the proprietor and operator of the Una Bhan and Hooked restaurants in Sligo town. And another listener, Kieran, reflected the feelings of most people with what he had to say.
