Michael Morgan wins national junior 5000m title



Michael Morgan’s growing reputation in athletics continued on Saturday as he won the junior men’s 5000 metres title at the Irish Life Health National Senior & U23 Track & Field Championships in Santry.

The Sligo AC athlete won the race in a time of 15:56.22 and finished ahead of North West Kildare’s Aaron Smith (15:58.05) and James Hyland from Raheny Shamrock AC (15:59.51).

Other local athletes competing at the championships, which are being spread over two weekends and behind closed doors include:

North Sligo’s Christopher O’Donnell who defends his men’s 400 metres senior title – and Sligo-based athlete John Travers who is defending his 1500 metres title.
