Daughter of former Sligo Rovers striker one of two young women rescued off Galway coast

A former Sligo Rovers player has been telling of his joy after his daughter was one of the two women involved in what has been described as a miraculous rescue off the Galway coast.

Sara Feeney and Ellen Glynn, both from Knocknacarra in Galway city, got into difficulty while paddleboarding at Furbo Beach.

The two cousins were discovered by a local fisherman clinging for their lives to a lobster pot marker buoy, about two miles from Inis Oírr, and around 17 miles away from where they had been last seen.

Ellen Glynn is the daughter of former Sligo Rovers striker Johnny Glynn; he joined Rovers from Shamrock Roves in 1987.

He has been telling about meeting the women after their dramatic rescue as well as recalling when they left on their trip
