Local Publicans express disappointment with latest government decision

Publicans throughout the north west, particularly those in rural areas who do not serve food, have expressed their disappointment with the government’s decision yesterday evening not to allow them reopen as they had hoped on August 10th.

While many publicans say they understand the government’s position, they point to unregulated situations such as house parties where large numbers of people are often gathering.

Taoiseach Micheal Martin confirmed that pubs, bars, hotel bars, night clubs and casinos will continue to remain closed, leading to real fears that some pubs in rural areas may never reopen.

West Sligo Councillor Michael Clarke, who operates The Still Bar in Dromore West, says it’s now time for a compensation package to be put together for publicans.
