Donegal club championships: St Nauls off to a winning start



St Nauls win over Dungloe in dramatic circumstances was the major talking point of Sunday’s Michael Murphy Sports and Leisure Senior Football Championship action.

A point six minutes into added time from the boot of John Rose gave the Mountcharles men a win on their return to the senior grade, as they ended as 1-14 to 1-13 winners.

Meanwhile in the last game of the weekend in the top tier, Ardara were edged out by a single point by Sean MacCumhaill, 1-10 to 1-9.

Elsewhere on Sunday, Gaoth Dobhair had a 2-17 to 0-7 win over Four Masters. After the match, the winners full-forward Kevin Cassidy spoke to Ocean FM Sport’s Ciaran Cannon.

On Saturday, Kilcar opened their campaign with a comprehensive 4-21 to 0-7 win over Termon, while holders Naomh Conaill were 3-20 to 0-6 winners over Milford. Killybegs suffered a 1-12 to 1-6 defeat against Glenfin.

On Friday night, St Eunan’s overcame the challenge of Realt na Mara Bundoran by 0-15 to 1-5. The Letterkenny side take on Kilcar live on Ocean FM next Friday evening in round two.

In the Intermediate grade, Aodh Ruadh Ballyshannon got off to a winning start with a 0-11 to 0-6 win over Burt.
