Full steam ahead for the return of Drumboe to Donegal

Donegal Town is to get a major tourist and visitor attraction with the return of one of the county’s most famous steam engines.

The Donegal Railway Heritage Centre has secured the return of the steam engine, known as Drumboe, following a successful two-year €100,000 fundraising campaign.

Donegal Local Development Company has provided a grant of a grant of €65,000, leaving only a small amount still to be raised.

Niall McCaughan, manager at Donegal Railway Heritage Centre, says work will also now be done on enhancing the centre, with Drumboe as the centrepiece of what is expected to be a landmark tourism attraction that will take about 12 months to complete.
