Councillor believes pollution, increase in visitors the cause of problems with Mullaghmore water

A Sligo councillor says it seems pollution and an increase in the number of visitors to Mullaghmore are factors in the prohibition of bathing at the north Sligo seaside resort.

A Bathing Prohibited Notice has been issued by Sligo County Council for the beach.

This is the fifth time in five years that such a notice has been posted at Mullaghmore.

Sligo Drumcliffe Fianna Fáil Councillor Donal Gilroy says he has contacted Irish water regarding issue.

Cllr Gilroy says that despite Irish water rejecting the closure notice being linked in any way to an outflow, he say’s pollution seems to be a factor when the population is at its highest during the summer.
