Local Councillor rejects Broadband charge

A local Councillor has dismissed suggestions that people building new homes in rural Ireland will have to cover the cost of connecting to the new National Broadband Plan.

The Sunday Business recently reported that a cost of 5,000 would be charged for such a connection.

Communications Minister Eamon Ryan has previously warned that providing the connection in remote areas for free would reward ‘planning sprawl.’

Manorhamilton Municipal District Councillor Padraig Fallon says if such a cost was implemented it would be another nail in the coffin of rural Ireland.
