The Minister for Agriculture is to carry out an independent report on the recent landslides in Drumkeeran to establish if forest activity contributed to the slide.
The recent landslides in Drumkeeran, were among a number of items discussed last night at a Fianna Fáil parliamentary Party meeting.
Minister for Agriculture Barry Cowen addressed the meeting on the issue of forestry.
It is understood that he intends to carry out an independent report on the landslide in the north Leitrim area to find out if forestry activity contributed to the cause of the event which has inflicted serious damage on roads, bridges, family homes and farmland.
Mr Cowen told the meeting that he is preparing memo for cabinet seeking to act on a Programme for Government commitment to align forestry licensing with the planning system.
