Bishop of Elphin warns against anger boiling over after Garda shooting

Bishop of Elphin Kevin Doran says the death of Detective Garda Colm Horkan has caused outrage in the area.

But he’s urging people not to let their anger boil over:

Preparations are under way for a State funeral for Detective Garda Colm Horkan.

His body will be returned to his family home in Charlestown today.

A man in his 40s was arrested at the scene and remains in Garda custody.

Books of condolence have opened at Garda Stations across the country as funeral preparations are made.

The man suspected of Garda Horkan’s murder is known to gardaí for his erratic behaviour and has mental health issues.

He’s under constant surveillance as he attempted to injure himself in custody.
