9% increase in road deaths compared to 2019



Gardaí are out in force across the north west this June bank holiday weekend.

The force will be targeting speeding motorists.

There has been a doubling of pedestrian deaths this year with 18 people losing their lives so far in 2020, compared to 9 in 2019.

While The Road Safety Authority and Gardaí say there’s been a 9%t increase in overall road deaths.

60 people have been killed in crashes so far this year, up from 55 at the same time last year.
