Aodh Ruadh to remember club stalwarts this weekend

Aodh Ruadh Ballyshannon will mark two of the club’s stalwarts Billy Finn and John Larkin this weekend with a special fundraising cycle involving the the club’s under 14  hurlers.

Billy and John passed away in 2017 – and each year since then, the Ballyshannon club has held an annual under 14 hurling tournment in their memory.

The Covid emergency means the 2020 tournament can’t happen. So, instead, club members of all ages will be taking part in a special fundraising event as they attempt to walk/run/crawl 2,600 kilometres in 72 hours.

The initial challenge was 1000 kilometres but interest in the event was so high that organisers opted to extend the distance to 2,600 kilometres, a virtual equivalent of the Wild Atlantic Way distance from Malin Head to Kinsale and back.

Their attempt will begin this Friday, May 9th and continue until Monday, May 11th.

Event organiser John Rooney spoke to Ocean FM Sport last Sunday about this special event for the club:
