The ‘Love Leitrim’ campaign has warmly welcomed the acknowledgement from Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil that it “does not make sense” to build new large scale fossil fuel infrastructure such as LNG import terminals.
The acknowledgement is included in the two parties response to the Green Party’s 17 pre-conditions for entering talks on government formation.
The Fianna Fáil-Fine Gael response document stops short of agreeing to a 7% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions – which was one of the Green’s red-line issues.
But Love Leitrim Chairperson Jamie Murphy says their response to fossil fuel infrastructure represents a major policy shift from two of the country’s biggest political parties:
