Leaving Cert students unable to switch from pass to honours as oral exams cancelled

Leaving Cert students will be unable to switch from pass to honours Irish in light of the oral exams being cancelled.

The exams will not go ahead next week as planned, due to the outbreak of COVID-19.

Everyone will receive full marks for the Irish oral, which is worth 46 points at honours level and 12 at ordinary level.

To stop students taking advantage of the circumstances, they will be unable to change levels on the day of the written exam as is normally allowed.

Education Minister and Donegal TD Joe McHugh says students will be stuck with the level they initially chose.
