Leaving Cert and Junior Cert oral and practical exams cancelled

The Leaving Cert and Junior Cert oral and practical exams have been cancelled because of the coronavirus outbreak.

Students will be awarded full marks for the exams, which were due to start on Monday.

It’s been a little under a week since schools closed in an attempt to stop the spread of COVID-19, leaving many students wondering what it meant for their state exams.

The Dept. of Education has announced that oral exams in all languages and practical exams for music and home economics will not go ahead.

Education Minister and Donegal TD,  Joe McHugh says it was the fairest decision that could be made.

The State Examinations Commission is working on the basis that the written state exams will go ahead in June.

But Minister McHugh was unable to rule out that changing in the near future.

Students have also been given an additional three weeks to complete projects and coursework in a number of subjects, with the deadline now May 15th.
