Consultant calls on people NOT to visit hospitals or GP surgeries

The consultant in emergency medicine at Sligo University Hospital has called on people NOT to visit hospitals or GPs surgeries if they think they have coronavirus symptoms.

Dr Fergal Hickey is making the call after the hospital was inundated with calls to its emergency department this morning from people seeking tests.

Dr Hickey pointed out there is a process that must be followed by people looking for a test.

He outlined the situation to Ocean FM:

And he had blunt messages, both about people visiting the hospital and about washing their hands.

And he says it’s not the case that a person will get a coronavirus test simply because they want it.
